Training Camp 101

So in my last video I talked about training camp – unless you are part of Adventures in Missions you probably have no idea what training camp is. So I tried to document all the parts of training camp and what my role is.

Registration :I get to FINALLY meet the Racers that I have working with face to face.

I am responsible for one route (aka squad) per launch window. That means once a participant has been accepted and commits to going on my route I help them prepare for the Race, fund raise, and be their point of contact in the office for anything they need.

During Training Camp I am part of a Training Team that is resposible for leading my route/squad.

Training & Talks : During Training Camp we have different leadership for Adventures in Missions give teachings and talks on a variety of different subjects. The point of these is to start preparing the Racers for the mission field. After some session I help facilitate discussions about the teachings and help Racers process if they need it.

Tent City: While at Training Camp,  Racers camp on Adventures property. Its a great way for them to test out their gear but also a good way they bond as a squad.

Team Building: I help facilitate team building activities. We will do mulitple different team building activities through out the week. These activities help us to figure out how to break the squad into teams.

Physical Requirement : Ever wonder what 250 ish packs looks like?  well now you know! As part of Training Camp we have a physical requirement –  each Racer needs to be able to carry their own pack for 2 miles.

Fun : Also we have a lot of fun at Training camp. We laugh, play, and have dance parties 🙂

Down Time: Every day Racers get some down time and general hang out time. I try to be available during Racers free time so that I can get to know them better and also to available if a Racer need to talk with someone.

The Schedule: So here is an overall view of what the week of Training Camp looks like. The days are long but it is amazing to see how God moves in these 10 days. I just feel blessed to be part of the process for Racers preparing to go on the World Race.

Here are ll the squad that came to Training Camp.

This is my squad!!! My A Squad!!!!!

Yeah! That’s what Training Camp looks like for me 🙂

Also my job doesn’t end at Training Camp. After Training Camp I check in with everyone on my squad and make sure they meet their fundraising goals, are preparing well for the Race, and am available for any questions they have.

This isn’t my only squad either – I have another squad that will leave next August and I’m already helping them prep and fund raise as well!!

Training Camp is just one part of my job. I’m hoping over the next month to post some more vlogs to talk about other aspects so you can get a better understanding of everything I do.
